Hi,

If I understand correctly, SP6 replaces alot of DLLs from my computer.

If I deploy my program using InstallShield without the new DLLs, will my
program still run in my customers' computers? Hmm... let's make it "happy
paying customes". Wink

OTOH, even if I deploy my program along with the new DLLs, will the windows'
file protection thingie prevent InstallShield to update those DLLs?

You should deploy the same set of DLLs your app was built on. InstallShield
should be able to deal with any issues that arise. Especially if you're
using the SP6 merge modules (assuming they're finally available). The OS
shouldn't complain either because you shouldn't be packaging OS specific
components.

Will there be DLL Hell problem if I have programs written in VB6 SP4 and
programs in VB6 SP6 mixed together?

There shouldn't really be any problems with that. The apps that were built
with SP4 components should work fine with any newer service pack. Unless
you're doing something "tricky", and trying to get your apps to use a
specific version of something, your apps will use the newest components
registered and available on any PC.

You may (probably will) have problems building an SP6 app and deploying to a
PC that only has SP4 components... which is why a setup package is good to
have, even if your support files are known to be installed on the target PC.
Any decent installer will check versions and update components only if the
setup package contains newer components.

So.... that was a long way of saying... don't worry about it Your apps
weren't written in SP4, they were written in VB6... so, you should be
safe....
