vb6 IDE crashes DirectX 8 LoadMesh sample under Vista

when you try to run the DirectX8 SDK tut06_Meshes under Vista, vb6 IDE
crashes when trying to load the tiger.x mesh. However the exe runs perfectly.

Any idea?

Pretty sure you must use DirectX9 or greater under Vista. Download and
install the DirectX9 SDK and you should have the DirectX9 type libraries to
use in VB.

the problem is that DirectX9 is not accesible from VB6, Microsoft didn't
create the dll for 9

Not sure, but from what I can tell, it looks like you might need to install
the October 2006 or *earlier* version of the DirectX SDK.
